The 440E-A13078 is designed to maintain the "sweet spot" of tension on the pull-wire. Safety switches like the Lifeline 3 and 4 require a specific amount of tension to keep the contacts closed; if the cable is too loose (slack) or too tight (pulled), the switch will trip. This spring compensates for thermal expansion and contraction of the cable due to temperature changes in factory environments.
