The Adam M12-5 is a coded non-contact safety sensor that uses an electronic signal (DYNlink or OSSD depending on the controller) to verify that a safety guard is closed. Because there are no mechanical parts to wear out, it is significantly more reliable than traditional tongue-interlock switches and is ideal for washdown environments.
